Business / Traffic Register

A Traffic Register Number is basically like an ID document for entities that serves as a non-legal person. If you wish to register your vehicle under your Trust, for example, you need to apply for a TRN (Traffic Register Number). At Cathy’s, we can assist with the documentation needed out of courtesy only, as we can not assist with this application.

DOCUMENTS YOU NEED TO SUBMIT:

Individuals (Natural Persons)

A Valid Foreign Passport
Valid VISA from Home Affairs
Original Certified letter from work, study institution, or for general work
Registration documents OR Company Registration Certificate OR Tax Clearance Certificate
Affidavit Statement – the Reason for Application
Two Identity size photographs
Proof of address (utility bill or Bank Statement) not older than 3 months
If the utility bill is not in your name, the owner of the bill must make an affidavit declaring that you live at the address and the utility bill must be attached to the affidavit.
If the company is on home premises a company letterhead must be attached stating the owners of said premises along with their identity document copy and proof of address
If you stay at an informal settlement, you must bring a letter with an official date stamp from the ward councilor confirming your address.

Application for Body of Persons

Company/Organization Letterhead applying for the Traffic Register Number, with a statement of the appointed Proxy and representative. If you have more than one branch/office, please include a proxy for each branch/office.
Acceptable Identification of the appointed representative/s or proxy/s
Proof of address (utility bill or Bank Statement)
If the utility bill is not in your name, the owner of the bill must make an affidavit declaring that you live at the address and the utility bill must be attached to the affidavit.
If the organization is on home premises a letterhead must be attached stating the owners of said premises along with their identity document copy and proof of address

Who needs to apply for a TRN?

Foreigners;
Business serving as a non-legal person;
Partnership;
One-man business;
Municipal/Provincial/Government Authority;
Church/Congregation/Welfare organization;
Recreational organization;
Educational organization
A Trust or Statutory Body

Traffic Register Numbers have two categories; Individuals and Body of Persons.

Individuals

Foreigners that wish to buy or register a vehicle in South Africa, you have to apply for a Traffic Register number to be registered in the National Transport Information System (eNaTIS).

Body of Persons

If you are an organization that serves as a non-legal person you must apply for a traffic register number to register motor vehicles in South Africa. The organization must also identify a representative for every branch or separate address of the business/organization to serve as the contact person for administration purposes.
